The Rising Popularity of Men's Volleyball
Men's volleyball is witnessing unprecedented growth in the United States:
High School Participation: The 2022-23 season saw a remarkable increase of 10,800 boys participating in high school volleyball, totaling 77,287 players—a 16.24% rise from the previous year. This surge marks the largest annual growth since the National Federation of State High School Associations began tracking these statistics.
USA Volleyball Membership: The 2022-23 season also recorded a 9.6% increase in USA Volleyball memberships, reaching 408,000 members. This growth, the most significant since 1998, spans all age groups and genders, with junior men's membership rising by 9.7%.
State-Level Adoption: States like Missouri have officially sanctioned boys' volleyball, with 75 schools initiating programs under the Missouri State High School Activities Association. This move aligns Missouri with nearly two dozen other states that sponsor boys' volleyball, reflecting the sport's expanding footprint.
This upward trend in participation and institutional support underscores the growing appeal of men's volleyball nationwide. The University of Hawai'i's commitment to excellence and the emergence of talented players like Lowe, Kubr, and Wade not only elevate the program but also inspire the next generation of athletes.
